Decorating your home is a fun way to add personalized touches to a space you’re going to occupy and spend a lot of time within. That’s why it’s important to choose a decor style that fits not only your personal preferences but your lifestyle. One of the many things that may be overlooked in a space is how important choosing carpet and rugs can be.
While there are many benefits to adding carpet for an aesthetically pleasing look, it’s important to also look at the style of carpet for comfort and traffic.
Traffic in your home is something you need to consider when decorating with rugs and carpet. Ask yourself these common questions:
- Will this area occupy a lot of foot traffic?
- Does this area need a soft carpet for children or animals?
- Is this space one for versatility or aesthetics only?
- What colors do I want to use in this space?
- Should I use a carpet that’s patterned?
- Will I have the tools needed to clean the carpet or can I afford commercial carpet cleaning services to come handle it for me?
Once you’ve determined the answers to these questions you’ll be better equipped to make an informed decision on which style of carpet to choose per each room in your home.
Comfort is important for areas of your home where there will be children crawling on the floor, you, or animals. Some carpets are nice to look at but are stiff and will not make good ‘knee’ pads for kids or animals.
Once you’ve decided on how soft you want your carpet, you’ll then need to choose which style will be best for that space.
There are three main aspects to look for in carpet styles.
Solid – Will the carpet be a solid color and if so, which color is best for this space. Will this color help hide dirt or is traffic not an issue?
Textured – Should I have carpet that looks textured or is even color all around?
Pattern – Choosing a pattern that fits your lifestyle and also will have high resale value is important.
